Discussion about the dangerous appeal of technology

Assignment task:

Prompt 1. In her article "The Dangerous Appeal of Technology," Sheila Jasanoff points out that innovation in technology can "open up new markets and new ways to extract resources." Yet she warns against the idea that new technologies are always better and more useful than old technologies.

Think of a time when a "new" technology didn't really help you or improve your life or take the place of an older technology. (1) What was that new technology and what technology (or technique) did it replace? (2) What did this new technology PROMISE to do or what did you HOPE it would do? Be specific! (3) Why or how did this technology FAIL to do what had been promised? Be specific!

Paragraph 1 should be one or two sentences maximum. Paragraphs 2 and 3 should be somewhere between five and eight sentences each. Your entire mini essay should be somewhere around 250 words.
