Assignment task:
How would you respond to a classmate on this discussion answer Psychological testing allows us to infer and predict potential outcomes by observing or measuring specific behaviors that are related to the test or assessment being performed (Miller & Lovler, 2020). The results of the tests and assessments allow for individuals and professionals (institutional) to make decisions regarding individual abilities. There are several method types discussed in the text, these include maximal performance, behavioral observation, and self-report. Psychological assessments are used in different settings including education, organizational, and clinical. Each setting has different reasons for using the assessments. For educational settings, they are used in admissions, placement in programs, awards, and career interests, and assist in identifying learning problems. In clinical settings, assessments are used to assist in diagnoses, treatment planning, review of treatment outcomes, and guidance on how to counsel and advise the clients. For organizations assessments are used to assist with training, hiring, and performance evaluations. One of the biggest concerns with assessments and testing is discrimination against certain racial and economic groups. Since assessments often are used for school and career placement some believe the tests can eliminate qualified candidates leaving them unable to obtain the skills needed to advance. The biggest challenge is with standardized tests that measure achievements and intelligence. The concern is that the tests were culturally biased and those from another culture or wanting to move to another location may not have the same understanding of culture or life experience as those living in the culture their whole lives. Some examples of factors that make a good psychological test include rules to use for scoring the test, the behavior being measured is used to assist in predicting an outcome, and the behavior examples used in the test were obtained with standardized conditions (Miller & Lovler, 2020)
