Assignment Task:
David is 15 years old. He has a prior juvenile record of Domestic Violence, Assault, Criminal Trespass and Underage Drinking. He has done a few weeks in the Juvenile Detention Center previously, but has been released back to his Parents each time. He was on Probation once when he was 12 and completed the supervision successfully. However, he got into trouble again shortly after. He has now been referred to Intake by the Police on a new charge of Possession of Cocaine.
You have spoken to his Parents and have reviewed the records from his previous cases. His Parents say he is just a misunderstood child and they can handle his behavior at home. They seem bothered by you asking questions and keep saying these are family matters. They are NOT interested in being involved in any treatment services with their son.
When you interview the juvenile, he seems proud of his choices and says he has no regrets. He blames other people for every offense that he has committed and doesn't take responsibility for his decisions or actions. What would you recommend in this instance and why?
