Problem:
With continually evolving technology, opportunities for health informatics are becoming more and more utilized. Health informatics assist healthcare professionals in collecting, studying and analyzing data in order to assist in problem solving and decision making, resulting in improved overall human health (Maxwell, 2023). Informatics provides opportunities for public health professionals in the areas of disease prevention, health and safety promotion, diagnostics and education all of which contribute to improving the quality, safety and effectiveness of treatment plans and health outcomes. Examples of health informatics include epidemic tracking, electronic health records and telehealth/telemedicine. According to Maxwell, social media platforms can provide real time data for clinical informatics to assist in predicting influenza and HIV outbreaks (Maxwell, 2023). Electronic health records help in reduction of errors and duplications by providing continuity of care. EHRs provide healthcare professionals and patients alike, access to records, which is crucial in the development of appropriate treatment and increased quality of care.
