Problem:

I have always enjoyed patient education, precepting new nurses, and being a resource for my fellow nurses when new situations arise on the floor. Because I have a passion for education and teaching, a nursing informatics role that piques my interest is Nursing Informatics Educator. The roles and responsibilities of this role include teaching employees how to use the healthcare technology and EHRs that the healthcare organization uses, ensuring current staff have yearly training on healthcare technology, and assisting staff with questions and concerns when new technology is implemented. Nes et al. (2021) states, "A lack of technical expertise and technological understanding poses a challenge to the quality of health services and possibly to the safety, dignity, and quality of life of patients." Therefore, all staff must have a foundational understanding of the technology they will use for patient care, which necessitates well-trained Nursing Informatics Educators. Technology is always evolving, and nurses need a way to stay up-to-date on the technological changes that will impact how nurses practice daily. In addition, knowing how to operate healthcare technology will streamline workflow for nurses, allowing more time to be allocated to patient care.
