Problem: What is your comment to the following discussion: There are so many interesting things about meiosis and the stages that form its process. To begin with its pretty cool that meiosis is essential in creating life and reproduction, upon reading the power point I did learn why meiosis is important as well. One reason why meiosis is important is because it keeps the chromosome count the same in each new generation by producing haploid cells. Another cool thing stated on the power point was that 70,368,744,000,000 chromosomally different zygotes are possible. I also learned through this power point that trisomy is the medical term for having an extra copy of a chromosome, and trisomy 21 is what is known as down syndrome which is a result of non disjunction which is the failing of sister chromatids to separate. In regards to genetics I think one of the most interesting things from the power point was learning about the different genetic disorders, the one that interested me most was autosomal recessive pedigree which is a disease that require both parents of an affected individual to carry at least one copy of the disease allele.
