Assignment task: Based on below, what is some positive feedback that can be provided
Three new skills I learned along with active listening are: asking open ended questions, provide encouraging words, and also summarize what the client is saying by providing reinstatement by saying phrases such as "I understand" and "uh huh" also non-verbal ques such as nodding of the head.
The populations I feel would benefit from the skills are communities that experienced tragedies such as Katrina, wildfires, tornados and windstorms. People who are dealing with losses that can be replaced, material items.
The populations that I feel these skills would be challenging with are people who suffered from losses from tragedies, such as school shootings, 9/11, homicide, etc. I feel that saying I understand and phrases similar to that would come off as condescending and unempathetic. Yes, offering solutions such as peer groups including people who have suffered the same type of losses would be the only effective skill to offer in this situation.
