(2020), a PMHNP must ensure that all members participate equally, that no one dominates the session, and that each individual feels supported. Additionally, group settings may expose certain members to triggers they aren't ready to confront, requiring the therapist to manage emotional responses carefully. In individual therapy, PMHNPs might encounter resistance from patients who struggle to see the value in changing their thought patterns or who feel overwhelmed by the intensity of self-exploration. Sustaining motivation and engagement over time in individual therapy can be a hurdle, especially when progress seems slow. In family CBT, the PMHNP may struggle to balance the needs of each family member, as family dynamics can be complex and often emotionally charged. Ensuring that all family members are equally invested in the therapy while navigating conflicting interests and emotional baggage requires advanced therapeutic skills and sensitivity.
