Problem: When discussing the role of biology in crime today, we reject Lombroso's idea of the born criminal. Even Wilson and Bernstein, who tout the role of biology in crime in their book Crime and Human Nature, admit that it is not just biology that causes crime but biology in relation to social learning. Wilson's reading describes several dimensions upon which people differ biologically. What are they? How would this affect their committing crime, and why won't punishment work equally as a deterrent for everyone? Where does this leave us in terms of crime control policy?
