This week's lecture discusses a number of rhetorical techniques and how they are used to create meaning in non-fiction literary works. Some of these techniques are ones that we have seen used in other literary forms we've discussed, while others are more unique to non-fiction essays. In order to explore these connections and differences, choose one essay from the readings this week, and then go back through the Unit 2 and 3 readings to find a short story or poem that you think deals with a similar theme. Be creative when figuring out shared themes-there may be some interesting ones that are not immediately obvious because of the difference in forms. Once you have chosen your two pieces, consider the rhetorical techniques-voicing, tone, imagery, symbolism, rhetorical appeals, etc.-that the authors of the two works use. Do they use similar rhetorical techniques? How do the techniques used seem to affect the way the theme is addressed? Required minimum-250 wordsRequired maximum-300 words
