Discuss what worked and what you would change the next time

Problem

Reflection is part of what all teachers do to modify and support their professional practices. Reflecting on strategies/techniques related to the overall classroom climate and how collaboration is taking place allows teachers to learn from each other and modify their own practices.

A mentor teacher is implementing a lesson/activity that is appropriate for mild or moderate disability students. While teaching, integrate the classroom management strategy developed. During the lesson or activity, take note of how the student or each student in the small group responded to the strategy? Did you adapt the strategy during the lesson or activity? If so, how?

Following the implementation of the lesson/activity and the classroom management strategy, reflect on the implementation and make changes as necessary.

1) Discuss what worked and what you would change the next time and why.

2) Adjust the classroom management strategy with the help of your mentor teacher and develop a plan for how to identify and respond to student misbehaviors during instruction. Include strategies for how you will motivate and engage students in self-assessment and self-determination during the next lesson or activity.

Summarize the effectiveness of the classroom management strategy integrated into the lesson/activity using specific examples from the implementation with the student or small group as well as the discussion with the mentor teacher. Did the classroom management strategy support a positive learning environment? How did you adjust the strategy to make it more effective in future lessons/activities? Maintain confidentiality by using pseudonyms when identifying students in the class.
