Discuss ways that the media portrays violence in the family

Q1. What are some of the ways that the media portrays Violence in the Family that contribute to myths and misunderstandings of these phenomena?  Try to come up with two examples.

Q2. Give a short paragraph. What do the various authors mean when they say that violence is gendered?  Moreover, what's the difference between the family conflict model of violence and feminist theoretical understanding of IPA/IPV?

Q3. In the article, "Barriers for LGBTQ Victims of IPV," the authors discussed that we need to be thinking about how to intervene in such a way that makes LGBTQ IPV more visible.  They suggest activist campaigns and use HRC (Human Rights Campaign not Hillary Rodham Clinton) as one such organization that could work.  List two other sociological informed ways that we could think about intervening at the level of public policy/laws/social movements that would help to reduce stigma for survivors of IPV who are queer and/or make their experiences visible.  What I mean by sociological is, basically, not psychological or medical (necessarily), but more community focused or group focused.

Q4. "Intimate Partner Violence and the Leaving Process: Interviews with Abused Women."  In that article, they mention some of the barriers that prevent women from leaving abusive relationships.  In particular, they discuss how partners can make it difficult to leave because the abuse is a sort of honeymoon period.  Another barrier to leaving was that in the beginning of the relationship, everything was amazing, and the women interviewed noted that they felt as if they were swept off their feet.  Discuss media representation of people who stay in abusive or toxic relationships.  In answering this question, also think about whether or not you think the media does a good job of representing the relationship, if so, why?  If not, why?

Q5. List two characteristics of women's abuse in the family.
