Problem:
Due to the fact that police work regularly exposes officers to dangerous situations, many officers are said to develop a shorthand of identifying signals of violence, for example, assessing how one walks or dresses as predictors of violence (symbolic assailants). These signals of violence have been used by police to justify stops and frisks. In 2013, a judge ruled that the way NYPD was utilizing stop and frisk was unconstitutional and the policy was suspended. In your opinion, should police be able to utilize these signals of violence to implement stop and frisk? Why or why not?
