From this data, explain to Mr. Noble which two items are most important.
The next step in this memo creation is the creation of the capability index.
The specification of the height for a small pin that goes into a fuel injection system is 20 +/- 0.05 millimeters. The cutting process has a standard deviation of 0.018 millimeters. Calculate the Cp index for this process. From this index, is the process in control? Explain to Mr. Noble if this process is in control.
The last and final step in this case is the creation of an X-bar and R-chart for the data listed below. Then you must explain to your boss if the process is in control.
One of the products you produce for Toyota is metal knob for the entertainment center/navigation unit. You have several stations drilling a hole in the back of this knob, and because of drill bit wear, material inconsistencies, and operator error, the size of this hole can vary. The data below was gathered during a day's production of these knobs. One sample was taken each hour for the entire 10-hour production day. Each sample contained 6 knobs. The variable being measured is the inside diameter of the hole after drilling. All measurements are in millimeters
