Assignment:
There's no doubt that appreciation and recognition are critical to our self-esteem and feelings of self-worth, but can there be too much of a good thing? Some say that today it seems like everyone gets a "participation medal" of some sort, whether it's kids getting medals for just being on a team or adults getting plaques and certificates for doing their jobs. Others say that providing more achievable recognition can give kids and adults alike a stronger feeling of appreciation and connection to their team and/or job. For this discussion, discuss whether you think too much self-esteem can really happen? Does society reward people for doing normal, daily activities? How about kids? Is this good or bad? What sort of effect do you think these types of awards will have on kids in the long-run?
