Assignment: Cinematography, Sound, and Editing
Choose a movie that you have viewed in the past and can re-watch to complete the below worksheet.
Answer the following questions about the film by filling in, saving, and submitting this form. Please refer to the course readings to support your answers.
Part I: Examining Cinematography
Answer each question in 50 to 75 words (600 words minimum total for the assignment)
Questions

What is your film's point of view?
How are "camera angles" used within your film (describe some angles in the film and how they affect us as the viewer or what they mean)? Be sure to point to at least two specific examples.
Discuss how your film is "framed." For example, describe the framing in some shots and/or a scene.
Discuss the "depth of field" used in one scene in the film.
Using at least one scene, identify and discuss how contrast and color are used.
Discuss the use of "camera movement" in one scene.
Part II: Analyzing Editing
Answer each question in 50 to 75 words.

Analyze a cut within your film, or the editing style in general
Discuss two types of shots in your film.
Examine the concept of "temporality" within your film (how is time represented or portrayed through the use of editing and story structure).
Part III: Examining Sound
Answer each question in 50 to 75 words.
Questions
How are voice and dialogue used in your film?
Identify one scene with music. How does the music work within that scene or impact the scene? Be specific.
Discuss the sound effects used within your film.
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
3. Also include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
