Throughout the course, there have been opportunities to discuss the role of the informatics leader before, during, and after a disaster including ethical-legal issues, public education, and risk management planning. Based on what was learned in the courses, explain how you see your role as an informatics leader during a disaster. Has your thinking changed since Unit 1 and if so, how?

Scenario:
You are a Director of Health Information at a medium sized hospital and you have been charged with establishing a performance management plan for your medical coders.
• Put yourself in the role of Director of Health Information at a medium sized hospital.
• Complete the assigned reading and explore other information and articles as well.
• Create a performance management plan for your medical coders
• Address questions such as:
• How will expectations be communicated? What is the training plan and professional development plan? How will you conduct performance appraisals? How often? How wil poor performance be addressed? How will excellent performance be rewarded?
• Establish productivity standards for your medical coders.
• Include both qualitative and quantitative standards.
Requirements
• The final plan should be a minimum of 4 pages (not including cover page and reference page)
• The performance management plan should be presented in a professional format that could be used in a real HIM department. It should not be written as a paper, but as a business plan (i.e.with title, headings, subheadings, tables, etc.)
• Performance management plan must be comprehensive, organized, and appropriate
• Plan should include productivity standards that address both quality and quantity expectations
