Assignment:
First read the two articles that are downloaded. These articles are discussing the quality of representation by two different Public Defenders in the area. The first article makes some serious allegations about the quality of the representation locally. Next, listen to the first episode of the podcast, Serial Season 3: https://serialpodcast.org/season-three/1/a-bar-fight-walks-into-the-justice-center about a criminal case that happens in Cleveland, Ohio.
Finally, read through the ethical obligations of defense counsel found here: https://www.americanbar.org/groups/criminal_justice/standards/DefenseFunctionFourthEdition/.
Use the standards to evaluate both of the Public Defenders discussed and the defense attorney from the podcast. Are they all fulfilling their ethical obligations, according to the American Bar Association? Are these standards rigorous enough or are they too regiorous? Is there anything missing from the standards that you think should be included? Anything you think should be removed?
