Directions: Provide a succinct, technical, and comprehensive response to each question.
1. Discuss the process of the human memory system.
a. Describe each component of the memory system (explain duration and capacity)
b. Explain how each component is connected
c. Describe the role of attention in the human memory system
d. Discuss the nature of knowledge in long-term memory.
e. Provide an example of the process of the human memory system in learning a new concept.
2. Discuss the origin, history, and principles of behaviorism .In your discussion, compare and contrast instrumental and classical conditioning. Be sure to include the following:
a. Nature of the relationships between stimulus and responses for both instrumental and classical conditioning.
b. Distinguish between reinforcement and punishment. (Provide an example of each)
c. Create a scenario that shows how instrumental and classical conditioning shape a behavior.
i. Be sure to identify the appropriate stimuli/responses in your scenarios (i.e. UCS, NS, UCR, CR).
d. Describe the nature of the responses (i.e. voluntary vs. involuntary classical and instrumental conditioning)
3. Explain the process of promoting conceptual change and discuss the influences of diversity in the cognitive process. Provide an example of promoting conceptual in a classroom. In your example include, the grade level, topic area, and considerations of diversity.
4. Based on the theories discussed in class up to this point, discuss the theory that best explains human learning from your perspective. Provide a justification for this theory based on the following:
a. The assumptions of the theory.
b. How the theory defines learning.
c. Influence of mental process, biological, or environmental processes (where applicable)
d. Two examples of the application of the theory in a classroom setting.
5. Compare and contrast meaningful learning vs. rote learning. Discuss the implications of each for long-term memory storage and retrieval. Also, discuss each type of meaningful learning strategy and provide an example of each.
