Financial Statement Presenation
ALL groups must submit an Executive Summary Report (of approximately 500 words), and a copy of presentation power-point slides at the beginning of Session 11.
Topic for Individual Presentation
Given the 2013/2014 annual reports of two publicly listed companies in the same industry sector.
Using the information on those reports (and from other sources as appropriate), provide a 20 minute presentation which should include the following (note: the consolidated figures only are to be used):
(i) Balance sheet
1. Discuss the major elements of each company's balance sheet focusing on similarities and differences.
2. Comment on methods used to measure assets and liabilities
3. What do the balance sheets indicate regarding the strengths and weaknesses of each company's financial position?
(ii) Income statement
4. Discuss the major elements of each company's income statement focusing on similarities and differences
5. Comment on methods used to recognize and measure income and expenses
6. What do the income statements indicate regarding the strengths and weaknesses of each company's financial performance?
(iii) Statement of cash flows
7. What do the statements of cash flows indicate regarding the strengths and weaknesses of each company's financial performance and position?
(iv) Financial prospects and suggestions for improvement
8. Using information obtained above and other sources as appropriate discuss the financial prospects for the 2 companies over the next 3 years and any suggestions you may have for improvement.
