Select three noteworthy corporate fraud cases, one of which must be Canadian. Analyze each case in terms of the common characteristics, the unique characteristics and the contextual factors that enable fraud to be perpetrated. For example, consider the role of the company auditor in each case. Could the auditor have been more effective at identifying the true financials?
For each of the three cases you must include:
A. Summary of the case (date, location, key perpetrators, description, impact, outcomes
B. Note the impact of the fraud on the stakeholders and the community
C. Note any legal, accounting, and/or audit procedures used to identify the fraud and consider the role of the company auditor in each case.
D. Could the auditor have been more effective at identifying the true financials?
E. Note any criminal behavioral theories that, in your opinion, apply to the situation that may have contributed to the fraudulent activity
F. Identify the fraud scheme within the case and discuss the fundamental components of the fraud
G. Discuss how the case you selected, relates to some of the recent fraud trends in Canada and abroad and note how the case may have (or should have) contributed to changes in fraud detection and investigation procedures and/or regulations and legislation
