Discuss the feature of Pentium in brief.
The Pentium is a 32-bit superscalar, CISC microprocessor. The word superscalar is used for the processor that has more than one pipeline to execute more than one instruction concurrently in parallel.
The major features of Pentium are, this has two ALU's, one floating-point unit, two 8 KB cache, a branch target buffer and pre-fetch buffers. Two ALU's implies that here are two pipelines. All ALU has five functional units. There two pipelines are integer pipelines. They are termed as U and V pipeline.
While Pentium was introduced, operating frequency of Pentium was 60 MHz slowly; the operating frequency was increased to 233 MHz. The Pentium uses 0.6 micron Bi-CMOS process technology. This uses power management feature.
