Discuss the ethical implications of a leaders role in the

Original Question:

Discuss the ethical implications of a leader's role in the socialization of new hires into the preexisting culture of an organization. What responsibility does a company have to inform newly hired persons that it wants to shape their values, perceptions, and behavior to conform to the organization's culture? What impact does socialization have on both individual and organizational effectiveness?

Response:

Socialization is not only important for a new employee, but for an organization as a whole. It fulfills our needs as human beings. It is known that in Maslow's hierarchy needs must be fulfilled for motivation and success (Krietner & Kinicki, 2013). As a leader it is critical to success that employees are carefully reviewed during the hiring process. The ins-and-outs of the role, both positive and negative, need to be reviewed with a potential new hire by the employer in the first phase of employment (Krietner & Kinicki, 2013). That kind of discussion will provide the employer with the employee's expectations of the company and vise versa. It has been found that employees perform better for longer with a company when they share values with their employer (Krietner & Kinicki, 2013). When values are shared, it creates a stronger connection and maintains that an employee is meeting the values of the company. In the early stages of employment, training programs that inform of all aspects of the job and providing a mentor have shown to increase commitment, involvement and assimilation (Krietner & Kinicki, 2013).
