How can you apply a systems thinking approach to improve sustainability within your area of influence in the organization?
• Define the concept of sustainability
• Draw a rich picture of the situation of showing the different stakeholders, perspectives, interdependencies, power , emotions etc
• What are the traps in this situation? What one question could assist you in getting out of the trap?
• Discuss the different stakeholder voices in the situation and what you would you do in order to listen to their stakeholder interests and needs?
• Develop an Interrelationship Digraph. What are your key drivers? What would be the next steps towards a systems thinking based approach to improve the practice of sustainability in the situation?
• Discuss your insights from the exercise with someone from another team and or your manager and identify possible blind spots and unintended consequences of your actions. (Boundary critique)
