Assignment:
The Future of (Global) Supply Chain Management 2 each
Part 1
The current supply chain organizations I can think of being familiar with is the military and my current contract company L-3 Technologies. They're very unique, different, and both effective to an extent. With L3 Technologies we conduct spot check inventories monthly, but what would create more value/money for the stakeholders would to be to excess (sell) serviceable parts that have no usage for the past year.
By reselling these serviceable parts you'll make money to purchase new parts that are needed/necessary and this will create more space spending less time wasting energy in counting parts that are not used. Creating effective flexible processes will also lead to less time wasted and being compliant, as the saying goes "work smarter not harder".
The future freight flow is expected to increase, since demands of consumers are at it's all time high currently. With the markets changing and employment increase people will always spend money for goods and services. I see in the future rail and motor freight will be used more than ever, consolidated shipments and In transit visibility will be at it's best.
If each city does it's part in redesign and effectively creating the infrastructure for these high demand modes of transportation, then this can result into successful businesses. What I can see our organization to do to prepare for future flows, is to readdress continuous problems until resolved so you don't lag behind new technology, innovations, processes that can enhance a companies growth. Best wishes to everyone this last week, hope to see you all in some other classes.
Part 2
The organization that I am in right now as a service member, has a serious issue with keeping proper inventory, maintaining a trusting relationship with customers and ordering obsolete supplies. Also, when supplies are ordered, the customers feel like there is a convenient time for them to receive them. To create more value for stakeholders, an organization should try to communicate and develop strategies that will allow everyone to agree to have unit cohesion, and a common goal.
For this particular organization, they should prepare for global marketplace. Since global trade is increasing, organizations can work together with manufacturers to create a more efficient supply chain system and sustain better practices and regulations. To prepare for the future flow, the organization could assess the mistakes they are currently making by looking at their current inventory management and lack of coordination with ordering supplies.
Also, they can begin to do a little outsourcing at a time so that they become comfortable with it. I think that the military allows organizations to waste money on things that they don't need, as well as throwing away things that could be used, so if they were to use global marketplace in the future, there would be more of a limit involved, especially when it comes to finding quality.
