Problem
The textbook discusses the concepts of intercultural communications and communicating with Non-English-Speaking individuals. We utilize valuable training time in our police academies to teach police officers basic Spanish communication, whereas this training time could be used for other tactical and safety training. After all, English is the official and recognized language of America.
Is it really the responsibility of our officers/supervisors to learn cross-cultural communication skills and language, or should it be the responsibility of everyone in the United States to speak (learn to speak) English? Explain.
