TED Talk: Awestruck: Surprising facts about why we fall for charismatic leaders | Jochen Menges | TEDxUHasselt
In his TED Talk, Menges notes that when people are awestruck, the intensity of emotion increases, causing a cognitive decrement that leaves them less able to understand, memorize, and scrutinize messages. Discuss the awestruck phenomenon in terms of at least two different factors of source credibility discussed in the text. You may choose to address ethos, pathos, logos, dimensions of source credibility, the sleeper effect, message and channel factors, the five bases of power, similarity, likeability, or physical attractiveness.
Describe a persuasive situation in which you believe it would be important for a source to be highly credible. Then describe another situation in which high source credibility would be unimportant. What are the differences between the two situations?
