Discussion Prompt:

In the era of Roe v. Wade controversy and a potential reversal, many women (and their partners) are feeling as though their individual freedoms are being stripped from them. Anti-abortion versus Pro-choice headlines are prevalent in the news cycle. If Roe v. Wade is indeed overturned, women (and men) may have more pressing questions to ask concerning healthcare for childbearing women. If the government creates a law that affects women's health, should they also create policy to protect women's health? Considering the maternal mortality rate among minority women in the U.S., should access to free healthcare be available to all childbearing women from conception until birth? If there are complications related to birth (including mental health), should those services be extended beyond childbirth? Should these women be allowed to choose their healthcare providers or only be allowed to choose from a list that is provided by the governmental program? Does the American College of Physicians offer any useful policy in their framework to address these questions?
