Discuss racial disparities in the juvenile justice system

Problem: For this discussion, make sure you have reviewed Chapter 2 materials first, and then read this article about racial disparities in the juvenile justice system. Now, answer the questions below, ideally numbering your answers: Statistics can seem a bit dry (especially in this textbook . . . . ), but this article shares some really important information, backed up with data. What was your major take away from the article? And how do these statistics impact your view of how the justice system should interact with kids? What statistic can you share that is important to you? Give us a link (go for a legit source) and tell us why these numbers should matter to us. Here's an example from me: According to the NY Times, "in Oregon, 93 percent of girls in the juvenile justice system have been sexually or physically abused, including 76 percent who have been sexually abused by age 13." This matters because it tells me that trauma associated with childhood abuse is a big risk factor for girls to come into the juvenile justice system, and we need to support these girls better to avoid this pathway to delinquency.
