Question: According to Foucault, prisons either make inmates "automatons" or "recidivists." If postmodern prisons fail to reform criminals, then what in your opinion 'do' they do? Do you think there is an alternative to putting criminals in prisons? What might that be? (Alternatively, you might consider NYC's 'catch and release' law. In your opinion, is that a satisfactory 'alternative to putting criminals in prisons?)
