Problem: A nurse is admitting a patient diagnosed with pneumonia. See MAR below for medication orders. Significant past medical history includes: Kidney transplant 3 months prior Chronic back pain High cholesterol. Upon reviewing the medications ordered, the nurse will contact the healthcare provider and inform of potential drug interactions. The nurse recognizes that Prednisone Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim) Ondansetron Simvastatin can decrease Cyclosporine levels which can potentially lead to Increase risk of organ rejection. Decrease perfusion to the transplanted kidney. risk of thrombus formation and potential for embolus. The nurse also realizes that Ibuprofen, if given with Cyclosporines, can increase the risk of Ear Renal Hepatic damage.
