Synthesis is the foundation to writing a dissertation and a necessary skill to be able to articulate prior research while re-framing to include original thoughts and new knowledge. One key aspect of synthesis is the blending of ideas from multiple resources to develop your perspectives on a topic. When synthesizing, the writer should go beyond describing philosophy or findings, using critical analysis to compare and contrast works.
