Paragraph 1: What did you find most interesting from this podcast?
Dr. Peroug Sinhal, a British Endocrinologist, wanted to provide vitamin D supplements to minority communities and also offered to fund the supplements himself, but the politicians rejected that and said that "vitamin D was a distraction". Systemic racism is and continues to be a problem with minorities and people of color especially when it comes to our health. Its interesting that the people in power, who do not have Dr. as their title or any type of science degree, are still the ones deciding what is best when it comes to our health and not the scientist doing the research and risking their own health to find answers. Paragraph 2: What was the hypothesis for lower incidences of COVID in the homeless population?
The hypothesis for lower incidences of COVID in the homeless population was that sunlight can help lower the chances of catching COVID due to vitamin D which is in sunlight. In the podcast they brought up how in the Spanish flu they would send soldiers who were sick outside and after a day they would feel better. They weren't sure what the exact reason was but the only thing that added up was the sunlight was the reason. They made this connection to COVID and the questions about if sunlight can help with COVID started arising. (reply to this).
