Problem
For the essay ("The Yellow Wallpaper"), think about how the characters, setting, and themes in the story relate to the period in which it was written.
In a detailed essay (detailed literary analysis) discuss how the short story is an analysis and representation of the social, economic, and cultural values of that time period.
How is it a reflection and how is it a criticism?
Also discuss how the writer makes opinions about that world clear to the reader.
For the essay, include historical context AND literary criticism about the story it's author.
In the final essay, support your position with specific passages from the story AND give credit to your outside sources within the body of your essay, as well as in a reference.
DO NOT pick sources that are literary analyses or Spark Notes types of coverage.
The final essay is not a historical overview but is an examination of how the short story reflects the period and the criticism is makes of the period.
