B. List and briefly define the eight major health care principles we are studying. Then state how this set of principles is used to guide ethical action in health care.
C. Utilizing the principle of Autonomy, discuss some serious ethical concerns that could be present with surrogates making health care decisions on behalf of the patient.
D. Only one of the five criteria of Informed Consent involves the explanation of treatment options by a health care professional. Describe the other criteria,(concerning the patient), necessary for true informed consent to occur.
E. Demonstrate how the health care principle of Beneficence and the ethical theory of Virtue Ethics are related.
F. Apply the principle of Non-Maleficence to figure out the right thing to do when there are three COVID patients desperately in need of ICU services at your hospital, but only two spots are available.
G. Create an original scenario where the health care principle of Veracity might legitimately be violated. What kind of risks are present when this principle is not followed carefully?
H. Considering the principle of Confidentiality, discuss how the development of new technology has helped and/or hindered the protection of patient privacy.
I. Briefly explain Universal Health Care. Then, using the principle of Justice, create an argument for or against it.
J. Does a large urban hospital hold any sort of obligation to cater to the culture of a significant number of its patients? (in dietary offerings, prayer time...) What are some positives and negatives of taking this measure?
K. With health care workers in such short supply, could a Utilitarian argument be made that immigrant health care professionals, (not yet licensed in the US), be able to perform some skilled health care services?
L. Explain how the high level of gun violence in our community could be considered a public health crisis.
M. What kind of commitments should health care professionals be expected to hold towards their employers in today's challenging work conditions? And what health care principle does this most closely refer to?
N. What do you see as the major obstacles to health care professionals making good ethical decisions on the job?
