Problem: Given the growing influence of corporate and business interests on health policy, it has been argued that social interests (e.g., labour and civic movements, advocates, activists and actors) are playing a smaller role in terms of their influence on health policy. However, social interests have and continue to influence health policy in Canada. Discuss the roles that social interests have played in the development of health policy in a minimum of two of the following areas: Universal Health Care, mental health care, Medical Assistance in Dying, the Opioid Crisis. What strategies do social interests use to create change? Finally, what can social interests do to challenge the influence of corporate and business interests on health and public policy? In your response, make sure you define any key terms you use.
