Assignment task:
Hello everyone, I have a question on the concept "ex-appropriation" in terms of Derrida. What does he mean by it simplified and can you provide examples that illustrate this concept? Maybe in terms of language and meaning: Words and symbols carry meanings shaped by culture and context. When people use language, they can't fully control how others interpret it. The interpretations go beyond individual control, illustrating ex-appropriation. This is also taken to the level of responsibility. How does "ex-appropriation" or "ex-appropriability" (as Francoise Raffoul put it) work in terms of responsibility? "As Raffoul argues, expropriation inverts the traditional role of subjectivity in responsibility without challenging the concept itself. What we need is a new sense of responsibility, 'ex-appropriability', on which responsibility is 'the appropriation of the inappropriable, as inappropriable' (p. 267). Here, responsibility involves a response to something, an event of being or an event of the other, but subjectivity is neither presupposed nor inverted;" thanks for your feedback in advance alex
