Something to DISCUSS - Changes to School Lunch Program
The National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs serve 31 million children in more than 100,000 schools throughout America. It is a well-known fact that children who don't get breakfast and/or lunch have more difficulty concentrating and struggle more in school (academically and socially). And, in many cases, a meal at school is the best and/or only meal a child receives all day. Establishing reasonable regulations and nutritional guidelines for school lunch and breakfast programs has always been a significant challenge. In an effort to provide healthier options, new federal guidelines have changed the type and amount of foods that are being offered. However, not everyone is happy about this and some feel that the new standards are too restrictive or unreasonable. What are your opinions regarding this issue? And what has your experience been like with school lunch and breakfast programs? Review the following news articles before sharing your comments.
