Problem: A patient was admitted after being found unconscious at the bottom of a flight of stairs. He was intubated on the scene and brought to the emergency department. CT showed a massive right subdural hematoma with left shift of cerebral contents. Patient was determined to be brain dead; this was confirmed by flow studies. Patient was transferred to have organs harvested following cardiac death due to nonsurvivable injury. Final diagnoses and procedures: (1) Massive right subdural hematoma, (2) temporal bone fracture, (3) cerebral anoxia of undetermined amount of time, (4) fall down stairs.
