Case Study
Case Description:
Imagine you have 2 companies, one Telecommunication Company (telecom), the other a Financial Institution (FI). The FI has individual transaction data on individual consumers and the telecom has their whereabouts and connectivity information. The telecom does not know the individual's trip objective (what they are doing i.e., shopping etc.) and the FI doesn't know where they are coming from and where they are travelling next. These two pieces of information, however, are critical for both companies to improve their services (for instance, an FI can give the individual a discount through their rewards program if they know they have travelled a long way to get to their shopping destination, or maybe an umbrella if they know they walked in the rain). On the other hand, the telecom company can optimize their network coverage for whichever store the person is in (which they wouldn't know on their own).
Deliverables:
Make a report outlining the steps of a solution that will provide the FI access to the location data of the telecom, and vice versa, without compromising the privacy of the client's data. Be as detailed as possible in your steps. The more detailed you are, the more comprehensive the solution is.
Outline how these steps will ensure privacy but also discuss any potential disadvantages/hurdles it might create.
Make assumptions about the data if necessary and leave room for iterations to improve if one needs to pick up your solution at a later time.
