QUESTION 1:
PURPOSE: The purpose of this assignment is to enable learners to discuss on the application system which involves database technology that they may encounter in their daily life.
Write a 4-5 pages essay that discusses any TWO different areas of application system where you may encounter or use in your work or daily life. Elaborate on its purpose and functions. Explain also the database technology being used in both application systems.
QUESTION 2:
PURPOSE: The purpose of this question is to enable learners to construct a data model of a given scenario, by drawing the Entity Relationship (ER) model. Lernears will be able to discuss the examples of reports generated from the data model.
The Election Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya Malaysia (SPR)) is a commission set up for the purpose of regulating and conducting elections in Malaysia. Apart from regulating elections, the SPR's duties include reviewing the boundaries of parliamentary and state constituencies, holding by-elections and carrying out registration exercises.
It also collects information on newly developed areas to ensure a fair representation of voters in each constituency, promotes awareness on how important it is to vote and revises the electoral roll by deleting the names of those who are dead or have been disqualified.
On polling day, SPR members and officers will be stationed at polling centres nationwide to oversee the process. Each Malaysian citizen above 21 years old can vote for their state (DUN-Dewan Undangan Negeri) and parliament representatives. A parliament can have many DUNs. A candidate can contest in either DUN or parliament seats or both in one state e.g. YB. Khalid Samad from PAS political party is representing DUN N30 (Batu Tiga) and also P94 (Shah Alam) where Batu Tiga is one of the three DUNs in parliament Shah Alam. Not all parliaments consist DUNs.
Information on voters and candidates such as identification certificate number (IC), name, address, date of birth, date register etc. are recorded. The information about the states, DUNs, parliaments and SPR staff involved during elections are stored by SPR. The result of the election should also be recorded in the database.
Shows an example of a screenshot where information about a voter is displayed. You may use your national identification certificate number to see the full information about your electoral data.
a. Based on the given scenario, draw a complete Entity Relationship (ER) model using data model notation that you are familiar. Your ER model should include entities, attributes, relationships, relationship name, cardinalities, type of participation for each relationship, primary keys and foreign keys. Write your assumptions (if any) for any doubts encountered.
b. Discuss any FOUR reports that would be generated from the data model in (a).
