In the Middle East today, there are two distinct strains or ideological traditions of radical jihadism -- a Sunni line originating in the modern world with Sayeed Qutb, and a Shi'a line inspired by the Iranian Revolution and the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
While they share much in common, there are significant differences. Discuss and contrast these two lines of thought. In what ways are they allied? In what ways are they pitted against one another?
