Ryan, M. (2020). Agricultural big data analytics and the ethics of power. Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics, 33(1), 49-69.
In Ryan's article he argues that the use of big data by powerful Agricultural Technical Providers (ATP) will likely be used for manipulative purposes against individual farmers by undercutting land prices and confiscating their lands. He gives examples of this through five power types: manipulative, seductive, leadership, coercive, and forceful power.
Examine one of those power types which Mark Ryan describes and how Agricultural Technical Providers through the use of big data could abuse their power, and answer the questions:
1. What do you believe could be done by individuals and governments to prevent such abuse?
2. If these Agricultural Technical Providers followed social responsibility principles, could such abuse be mitigated or prevented? Why or why not?
