Currently, rTMS does not have a clear position in the treatment algorithm of guidelines for depression. Tough many clinical trials have established rTMS as a safe and efective treatment option for depression, head-to-head comparisons are scarce. Despite its potential as a mainstream treatment for depression, the placement of rTMS in the treatment algorithm is limited by the lack of comparative results, in particular taking its value in combination with CBT into account. Te results of this trial will inform us whether rTMS should be considered as treatment alternative to antidepressant medication in patients who have not responded to two previous treatment steps and will give important directions about the proper place of rTMS in treatment guidelines.
