Introduction
Rationale
One of the key skills in leading safety and risk management change is the ability to work in a team setting and develop common goals and responses to a range of incidents. Students will be placed in groups and asked to develop a response to a particular safety issue in a chosen occupation.
Task
Students will be given the opportunity to assemble groups for their presentation up to Week 5 of the session. Anyone that has not chosen a group to work with by Week 5 will be allocated to a group by the tutor. Each group will be randomly allocated to present in either Week 13 or Week 14 during the regularly allocated tutorial session. Please verify the appropriateness of your topic with your tutor by Week 7 of the semester to allow for sufficient time to develop your presentation. The group must meet regularly on their own time to put together a response to a safety issue in their chosen occupation. Time will NOT be provided during the tutorial sessions for working on the assessment.
The group must prepare a slide presentation to be delivered in class. References must be included in APA format on the final slides of the presentation with appropriate in-text citation used throughout the slides.
NOTE: Attendance is mandatory during your Allocated tutorial time. Only students with an approved Special Consideration will be provided the opportunity to make other arrangements. Each student within the group is expected to present their portion of the assessment.
What is expected:
- Select an organisation that all members are interested in researching.
- Identify ONE significant risk within that particular occupation
- Research the occupation and the risk and provide background information during your presentation.
- Identify and discuss the effectiveness of current safety measures that are already in place for managing the risk.
- Develop a response to mitigate the risk within the chosen occupation.
- Identify all relevant stakeholders necessary to mitigate that risk.
- Prepare a PowerPoint presentation to present to the class.
- Each member of the group is expected to present for 5 minutes during the presentation.
Criteria
Your assignment will be assessed on the following:
- Provides background information of the chosen occupation and the risk
- Critical analysis of the issue and current methods in place to mitigate the risk
- Recommendations for mitigating the risk within the chosen population
- Use of evidence to support the response using the APA Referencing System
- Communication skills and length of presentation (5 minutes per person)
