Discussion:Substance misuse and social programs
It is true that there are not enough programs, enough shelters, and enough remediation.
It is interesting to note that living in homeless shelters tends to be correlated with higher rates of substance misuse and abuse as well as other mental health disorders. This increased rate may be attributed to the sampling; but there was a 10 to 20% higher rate.
Do social programs help the homeless population? Is it possible that some programs may be useful for awhile? What happens when the patient stabilizes? Is there support?
