Problem:
Respond to the passage In chapter 8 of our text we learn about the importance of change and the challenges that come when implementing it. In the case study scenario the charge nurse has discovered the many ways that nurses have been overriding the new bedside medication verification system. The new system was very expensive and installed to reduce medication errors and promote patient safety. The charge nurse has discovered multiple reasons why the nurses are overriding the system. The reasons range from not wanting to wake the patient prior to administering and IV push medication to thinking it was a glitch in the new system. Some nurses were not even administering medications that they had scanned into the system and they were left at the bedside. The strategy that I would use if I was the charge nurse would be the rational empirical strategy to help to promote the change and be the "change agent" for the unit. I feel that by communicating the importance of the new system and how it will prevent medication errors and promote patient safety that the unit will change. There is resistance to change, so incentives and rewards help persuade and motivate people
