Assignment:
A. You are going to write about one endocrine disorder (based on the first letter of your last name).
• Identify the hormone that is disrupted and whether it is too high or too low (or what the complication might be).
• Identify the most common cause if known.
• Explain how it is diagnosed and how it is treated.
• Write your answer as one or more paragraphs.
B. Write a paragraph describing the normal feedback mechanism for the hormone from part A (stimulus, receptor, etc).
• If you want a refresher on the concept of feedback pathways, here's a mini-lecture on how feedback pathways work
C. Read the other posts from your peers about one or more of the disorders that you did not write about for part A & B, and reply to your own post - what did you learn that surprised you? Write a minimum of 3 sentences.
You should use your book as a resource to describe the biology of the disease and the feedback mechanism for the hormone (see also Dr. H's mini- lectures in the chapter page). I also recommend NIH and Mayo Clinic as secondary sources for information about testing and treatment (written more for lay people).
