Discuss about nonhuman animals used for research

Assignment task:

Question: Up to what point does Singer think this kind of research is permissible?

According to my professor, he said Singer thinks research is permissible if the nonhuman animals used for research don't feel or are not inflicted with pain/suffering, but feel happy or painless, then this research is fine. (Also, my professor said Singer would not agree with the idea of the benefits overweight the pain inflicted on nonhuman animals. Instead, it was scholar Kant's idea of the benefits overweight the pain for the greater good. This whole thing about the benefits overweight the pain for the greater good is not even in my textbook nor the scholar Kant is mentioned in my text at all.)  Since I was already given the answer by my professor, I want to know what textual evidence can I use to support the claim above of happy/painless research is permissible by Singer.

-Use proper citation (author's last name, page #).

-Do not include your own commentary/opinion. It has to be based on Singer's view.

-Use direct quotes, do not paraphrase the quote. (quotes must be from the textbook below)

This is the textbook I used in class, so the textual evidence must be from this text

Bioethics: An Anthology, Third Edition. Edited by Helga Kuhse, Udo Schüklenk, and Peter Singer
