Discussion Post: Crisis Theory, Concepts, Intervention And Strategies Required For Criminal Justice
• Articulate in writing how law enforcement officers and executives perceive crisis and how force is used against individuals who might be vexed with a mental, emotional, or developmental disability. Compassion would be the operative motivation driving the Christian executive to resolve each situation.
• Discuss the role of the law enforcement officer in crisis intervention, to include Prevention; Restoring of calm; and Referral.
• Identify the short term and long term goals of crisis intervention by law enforcement officers.
• Isolate aspects of personality and emotional development among professionals which may contribute to strained relations among affected populations and outline strategies to mediate such obstacles.
• Describe a minimum of four examples of crisis situations in which police intervention commonly takes place and justify, through a writing assignment, the various methodologies to resolve each situation.
• Discuss a minimum of three potential hazards to the officer which are inherent in crisis situations and outline preparatory measures for training.
• Identify effective intervention techniques with relation to 1) Initial contact; 2) Restoring of calm; 3) Fact finding; and, 4) Courses of action and how these techniques protect the rights of populations with behavioral disorders.
